Our specialty is the spiral wrap custom made fishing rod.

The "Spiral Wrap" used on TEXAS SIDEWINDER bait casting fishing rods originated in the state of Illinois in the early part of this century. It is believed that it was a patented item for a seventeen-year period and subsequently picked up by someone in Missouri. So many were produced in this state that they began to be known as the "Missouri Wrap". The design migrated into the southern states, through Arkansas, and then into Texas.

Since the shop opened in Nacogdoches in 1991, over 3000 SIDEWINDERS have been made and shipped all over the United States including Hawaii and even to Terne, Italy.

The concept of the TEXAS SIDEWINDER bait casting fishing rod is very easy to understand. YES, THE GUIDES ARE SUPPOSED TO ROTATE AROUND THE BLANK. If the guides on the rod rotate to the left, the rod is designed for a left hand retrieve reel. If the guides rotate to
the right then the rod is designed for a right hand retrieve reel. This allows you to lay the rod down on your deck with the handle of your reel up and the rod will not rest on the guides. 

Our customers tell us the SIDEWINDER seems to provide more sensitivity when a strike
occurs due to the fact that the guides are on the bottom and the tip of the blank does not
"deaden" the strike sensation, as occurs with the conventional wrap. Better sensitivity
allows for a faster reaction that will enhance your chance to catch the fish.

All TEXAS SIDEWINDER RODS are completely handcrafted with great care. There are no assembly lines and we can assure you of top quality. Cork rings are individually glued and sanded by hand in order to acquire a balanced product. Our rods simply cannot be beat for value and performance by any other product out there. We use only the highest quality PVD TiCh coated stainless guides for ultimate durability. We will wrap the rod with any color thread you request. We include your name and a serial number on every Sidewinder rod we build.
